JR Sanyo San'in Area Pass

JR West offers the Sanyo San'in Area Pass, which lets you travel at a reduced cost thanks to an unlimited access to JR West lines in Chugoku region and parts of Kansai region for 7 consecutive days. 

The lines included in the pass: JR West lines, Sanyo shinkansen (Nozomi, Mizuho, Hikari, Sakura, Kodama), Limited Express trains incl. Kansai airport express Haruka, the JR-WEST Miyajima Ferry to Miyajima.

The Pass allows you to visit the following locations: Kyoto, Osaka, Kansai Airport, Nara, Wakayama, Kobe, Himeji, Okayama, Kurashiki, Takamatsu, Hiroshima, Miyajima, Tottori, Matsue, Hakata (Fukuoka).

A child price (6 to 11 years of age) is available for this pass. Access to trains is free for accompanied infants aged 5 years or under.

Japanese passport holders can NOT use this pass.

WEST REGION

Discover Hiroshima, restored since the Second World War, its memorial and its its its past feudal system.

The town of Fukuoka will surprise you through its original culture; indeed, its harbour located opposite Korea, was the centre of the first exchanges between the archipelago and the continent. A charming blend of urbanity and tradition, it is a historic town not to be missed.

The area of coverages includes also places such as Izumi Shrine in Shimane, Tottori and its famous sand dunes, Tsuruga in Fukui, known for its great beaches, as well as Takamatsu and Uno stations, access points to Naoshima art island.

Finally, make a stop at the Okayama gardens, an enchantment of light and colours. The pass also allows you to use transport between Osaka, Nara and Kyoto, as well as the Ferry to Miyajima where you can admire the famous Torii from the Itsukushima shrine, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Please note that you may not continue on after Shin-Osaka or Hakata on the Nozomi.

The rail pass was fine and easy to use. I just didn't do enough research and it turned out to be a waste of money for my family. The areas we stayed in Kyoto and Tokyo where not close enough to a station that had JR trains to be worth it. We used the subways more due to our location.
